Worcestershire Ambassadors CSR Awards 2012

Many of us will know people and organisations within our community who contribute time and effort, helping others, making a real difference to people’s lives and the environment around them.
The Worcestershire Ambassadors have recently launched their 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards, giving us an opportunity to recognise and applaud businesses and individuals across Worcestershire who give something back to the community.

The awards are in their third year and Chair Phil Dutton explains,  “The Worcestershire Ambassadors want to recognise everything that’s great about our county.  All over Worcestershire there are amazing businesses of all types incorporating CSR into their business lives and recognising how it can benefit employees, customers, third party relationships, reputation and of course the broader community.”
The idea behind these awards originally, was not only to congratulate effort above and beyond, but also to attempt to mobilize businesses who are not yet engaged in CSR by raising awareness and setting standards for others to emulate.

Implementation of CSR takes commitment at every level of a business, it’s not just a one off activity…. done properly it becomes an integral part of everything we do.  Interestingly, even the FTSE and Doe Jones operate stock market indices that rank businesses according to responsible business criteria.  Advocates include some of the most powerful business people in the world like Bill Gates….. but any individual or business of any size can make a difference in their own way, whether its reducing carbon footprint, developing skills for our workforce and creating innovative initiatives to enhance the environment our people work in every day.  There is a real feel good factor for our employees when they have the opportunity to take part in community projects or raise much needed funds for local charities……. it’s both rewarding and morale boosting, so it’s not only good for the community it’s good for business too!

We can all encourage businesses we know or nominate individuals who personally make an outstanding contribution to the community. The awards are open to all businesses across the county whatever size or type and can be entered up until the 30th July deadline.  The judging process will see entries narrowed down ready to announce first the finalists and then the overall winners at a glittering black tie evening reception on 20th September at the Three Counties Showground.
