Manufactured in the Midlands Exhibition - a great success

The recent Manufactured in the Midlands event run by the Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Hewett Recruitment, saw impressive attendance levels and lead generation reported for its inaugural year.

Amongst the most popular features of the event, according to feedback from delegates and exhibitors, was the Employer Branding seminar run by Louise Hewett of Hewett Recruitment and Colin Foxall of Nexus Creative, an event sponsor.

The purpose of the seminar was to look closely into why employer branding is important for businesses today.

Attendees listened to both speakers, Louise Hewett presenting from a recruitment perspective, about helping to attract candidates to roles, and to Colin Foxall from the marketing perspective, examining why the perception of a brand is so vital in attracting the cream of the candidate crop.

Louise Hewett talked about the reality of the skills’ shortage for today’s business world, and how the upcoming ‘Generation X’ numbers are significantly lower than the soon-to-retire baby boomers.  “There are a lot fewer people available to work, add to that the skills shortages and it becomes very clear that we will all be fighting over a shrinking pool of people,” Louise comments.  “There certainly is a ‘war for talent’ so I gave advice and examples on why becoming an ‘employer of choice’ can be so beneficial in attracting the best candidates.”

Colin Foxall, Commercial Director at Nexus Creative adds: “From both a Nexus perspective and speaking to other exhibitors, it was the quality of contacts that were made on the day that impressed everyone. Both exhibitors and attendees were there for business and not just a day-out.  Despite being the first seminar of the day, our seminar was a ‘sell-out’ and seemed to be well received. The question and answer session was very lively and feedback complimentary.  Employer branding is an area of marketing that will take an increasingly important place in the business world over the coming years. A line from our seminar sums up its importance: ‘Often, the brands that we love and admire, are generally great places to work.’”
