Louises Column - Salary & Skills Survey

Last month Hewett Recruitment partnered with the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce to publish the Salary & Skills Survey 2017.

The opportunity to produce this report was particularly timely as there is much talk at the moment about the skills shortage across many sectors. Companies are understandably keen to ensure they are well placed to attract the talent they need to grow their business.

There are plenty of national salary surveys available but we always find that they are not representative of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. They are being skewed by higher salaries from the south-east and other major cities.
Our recruiters are regularly asked for local benchmarking information as part of the recruitment process. So doing something on this scale is absolutely what the local market has been asking for.

This survey in particular is interesting as it shows data for Herefordshire and Worcestershire separately for the most popular jobs…and there are some surprising comparisons to make between the two counties. It also provides information on benefits packages as we know it’s not just about the money!

There is so much more that employers need to consider in terms of the working environment and other benefits that make them an ‘employer of choice’. However, the salary is the most comparable element, so that needs to be absolutely right as a starting point before any additional benefits will even be considered by candidates.
