Louise's Column - Hiring of contractors on the increase

In some cases it can be challenging for businesses to hire the very best of the best for every position on a permanent basis. Many of the businesses across the region are SME’s who may not have the budget to permanently employ a highly skilled individual or simply require that person for a 6 month period to complete a specific project.

Hiring a contractor with exactly the right skills, experience and certification may be the best option. Engaging a person with the right specialist skills can allow a business to move forward quickly with a new project without the need for prolonged training and ramping up.

Contractors allow businesses to meet the fluctuating demands of today’s fast paced environment at an agreed rate for a specific time period. The demand for a flexible workforce continues to increase across the UK and the increase in contacting roles reflects that growth.  There are excellent opportunities for contractors and interims particularly within the IT, Engineering and Financial sectors.

The legal framework around contracting can be complex and is ever changing. The safest way to ensure a high level of compliance and skills with minimal risk is to use the services of an experienced recruiter, thereby ensuring an employer is not exposed to unnecessary risks. Requirements can range from a single contractor for a relatively short time frame to a whole team of specialists for a particular project, flexibility is the key.  For more information on how to parachute in the skills and talent your business needs please contact Louise Hewett.
