It's Less About Survival and More About Growth

Four hundred thousand more people are in employment now, than this time last year. Even though salaries haven’t risen above inflation yet, we are seeing salaries starting to go up, especially in high growth sectors such as engineering and IT. Kevin Green, CEO of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation commented recently  “While workers are inevitably feeling the pinch, it’s better for people and the economy if they are in jobs with slow wage growth rather than struggling on benefits.”

Encouragingly the June Jobs outlook from the REC reports that six out of ten employers plan to take on more permanent workers in the next 3 months. The majority of bosses foresee growth in their permanent workforce over both the short and medium terms.  Certainly our conversations with local employers echo those findings. The subject matter is less about survival and much more about growth and expansion which is good news for the region.

Delegates were inspired and informed by Kevin Green when he came to the Worcester Arena this month for the Hewett Recruitment /Chamber of Commerce HR Professionals Conference. The HR community across the region attended and there was much note taking as the key note speaker talked about the changing world of work, and the current and emerging talent crisis. He pointed out that the skills shortages would become more acute as business begins to grow and emphasized the need to grow our own talent and the importance of finding the right recruitment partner to secure the best candidates. Kevin also pointed out the importance of employer branding and how organisations should not just pay lip service to this, but integrate it as part of the culture and fabric of the organisation.  Hewett Recruitment have been working on Employer Branding with their clients for several  years now and can advise and supply working papers to support employers looking to promote their employer brand.
