HR Professionals Conference - a great success....

Over 50 delegates attended the first Hewett Recruitment and HW Chamber HR Professionals Conference yesterday at the new Worcester Arena. Guests were treated to bacon rolls on arrival followed by a delicious hot lunch and a rather naughty selection of deserts!

The conference was designed for HR professionals and those responsible for HR functions within their organisation, and provided a top line up of industry speakers who discussed some of the topical issues facing HR practitioners today.

Simon Williams from Arrivista Business Coaching was the first speaker of the day and explained how empowerment  and employee engagement can be an organisation's biggest assets. This was followed by Sally Morris, Head of Employment Law at mfg Solicitors, who provided advice surrounding business restructures and highlighted some important facts HR should consider with regards to redundancies.  This included discussing some interesting alternatives that can benefit both the organisation and the individuals potentially affected.

After a short coffee break to recharge the batteries it was time to discuss the very current issue of Cyber SecurityNick Humprey from CTSA and Andrea Borwell-Fox from browell ltd described how Cybercrime is a very real threat to businesses and how Information Assurance should be considered throughout the employment process and across all levels of business.

Finally we heard from the Keynote speaker, Kevin Green, Chief Executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and former Human Resource Director at Royal Mail. Kevin entertained the audience with a detailed insight into the UK labour market entitled “We live in interesting times”. This covered topics such as the shift towards employers using a temporary and flexible workforce to meet demand and the changing demographics of the UK that will impact on the current and future talent crises. He went on to discuss how organisations need to attract and retain employees through effective employer branding and also talked about how encouraging collaboration between businesses and education establishments can ensure students have the necessary skills when entering the workforce to bridge the widening talent gap.
