Hewett's build their own 'Talent for Growth'

In the latest Edition of Live 24-Seven - Ben Mannion, Strategic Development Director at Hewett Recruitment explains how Hewett's are setting themselves up for their next stage of growth and how 'Building Talent for Growth' has been a major factor in the businesses 36 years success.

      One of the biggest challenges facing businesses right across the UK is securing the talent that will support their future growth plans. This is not just limited to ensuring the technical capability is maintained within a company but also about identifying individuals who will lead the company through the next generation. 
Hewett Recruitment provides help and support regarding these key issues to a wide client base across the local area, whilst also facing up to them in their own right. The last 3 years has seen a considerable change in the structure of the company – with new markets developed and key new people installed – whilst also retaining the values that the success of Hewetts has been built on. This has included Ben Mannion and Laura Hewett joining the Board of Directors along with a number of new recruits within the team of Consultants.
In seeking out these new team members, Hewett have had to revisit how they go about their own recruitment. Identifying experienced Consultants who also buy in to the ethos of the company can sometimes be a tricky endeavour. Therefore much of the recent focus has been on finding people with the attitude and aspiration to succeed in recruitment, with a structured 12 week training plan providing the technical framework that they need to succeed.

This approach has seen Joe Allsopp rise to the position of Senior Consultant within the IT & Technical Division after only 12 months with Hewetts, with Sam Birtwistle recently joining to support Joe in growing this part of the business. Experienced recruits in the shape of Harriet Sampson (Temporary Consultant), Mitchell Hampton (FMCG Consultant) and Alice Dale (Finance Consultant) have also undergone the structured training plan, combining their local recruitment experience with the “Hewett Way”.

It’s not only the Consultants who make a team like Hewett “tick” though. The last 18 months have also seen a number of key changes within the operational side of the business. This has seen Jo Watkins be promoted to Operations Manager – a key move ensuring that Jo’s 19+ years of experience with Hewett is retained and fully utilised. Steve Clarke (Payroll Administrator) and Nicola Jones (Recruitment Administrator) have also joined the Kidderminster and Worcester offices respectively. Strengthening these central services allows the Consultants to focus on what they do best – solving their clients’ recruitment problems.

The final piece of the puzzle has to be ensuring that your people have everything they need to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Hewett Recruitment’s annual Employee Engagement survey makes sure the Board understand the areas where they can work with the team to improve productivity. There has also been significant investment in both offices and a new IT infrastructure and CRM system put in place to enhance the high quality service that Hewett already provides.
The net result? A business that is ready for the next phase of growth and the challenges that this can bring.
