H&W Chamber sign up to the REC Good Recruitment Campaign

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce are the first Chamber in the country to sign up to the Recruitment & Employment Confederation’s national Good Recruitment Campaign!

As winners of the national 2014 Chamber of the Year award, Herefordshire & Worcestershire are once again leading the way by encouraging businesses across the region to join the campaign and promote good recruitment. With many local organisations experiencing growth, aspiring to provide high standards and a great candidate experience throughout the recruitment process can only enhance employers chances of accessing the talent they need to meet growing demands.

Louise Hewett of Hewett Recruitment is a director of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation and is working with the Chamber to bring all the benefits of Good Recruitment to local businesses.
The Good Recruitment Campaign was devised by employers for employers and led by the REC working in partnership with the CIPD, CBI and ILM and nationally supported by organisations such as RWE npower, Arsenal FC, Diageo, PepsiCo, Yell, Royal Mail. The UK workforce is ageing, with young people and the unemployed not always having the skills to fill many of the jobs now being created. As the talent crisis escalates, businesses that have a well defined employer brand and world class recruitment process will be best positioned to succeed.

The cost of a mis-hire is expensive - often quoted to be 15 times base salary in the case of a manager - so the business case for getting recruitment right at every level of an organisation couldn’t be more apparent. Louise Hewett explained: “Signing up to the Good Recruitment Charter aligns your organisation with good recruitment practice – it sends a positive message to potential candidates and can be used to drive good practice internally with the senior team.

The resource is completely free and provides use of a self-assessment kit and guidance to review your own organisations performance against the charter. There will also be some great networking opportunities to learn from peers and academics about trends and new approaches to recruitment and resources. How we treat our candidates directly reflects on our employer brand. News travels fast in this connected world, so getting the right message out there is paramount.”

Kevin Green, Chief Executive of the REC recently brought experts and eight companies from different sectors together to explore how they could improve their recruitment processes. Apparently the candidate experience is getting worse and according to mystery applicant research – a whopping 48% said they had poor or a very poor time when seeking a new role. Candidates share their experiences – an amazing 83% tell their friends and family about poor experiences and 64% talk about it on social media. Louise Hewett and her team of Consultants are offering free advice and support to their clients and Chamber members who wish to find out more about the benefits of signing up to the Good Recruitment Campaign – for more information contact louise@hewet-recruitment.co.uk directly or go to: www.rec.uk.com/Goodrecruitment
