4 Ways to Spruce Up Your CV for 2015

1) Formatting your CV correctly:

Ensure that the information is clear and easy to read. You can help this by using bullet points and using consistent margins. Keep font size, style and colour consistent for the main body of your CV. Make sure you always spell check your CV and you are using the English (UK) spell check not English (USA). Avoid using photos and images on your CV just stick to text.

2) Quantify your CV:
Make sure that you show the numbers behind your job, successes and/or duties. For example if you are a Manager say how many people you managed. If you are a sales person detail how much you sold and over what timescale. It is important that employers can understand the volume of work you were doing.

3) Remove unrelated and old experience:
Keep it relevant! If you’re applying for a new job you’ll want to highlight your relevant and most recent experience. In most circumstances it’s safe to simply put one line with job title and dates for positions from 10+ years ago.
If your past experience is still highly relevant, try to focus on highlighting the transferable skills suitable for the job that you’re applying for.

4) Make a new version of your resume for each job:
Your CV needs to be specific and targeted to the position that you’re applying for. You will normally only need to make small changes but these can have a huge impact on an application.
If it’s a technical position then focus on those skills and display them near the top of your CV, similarly for a business or customer focused role you’ll want to shout about your key skills on the first page where an employer can see them straight away!
