Studying the talent

Lending their business expertise to the next generation of business men and women, members of the team at Worcester’s Hewett Recruitment are often invited to talk to University of Worcester students about employability and workplace skills.

On, Wednesday 2 April, Laura Hewett from Hewett Recruitment’s Worcester branch, presented as part of a lecture to a group of 80 third year Computing students.

As part of the students Professionalism in Context module, Laura shared her recruitment and business expertise on the current IT jobs market, offering practical examples of graduate positions and some case studies to tell the students what businesses are looking for in the ideal candidate. Her presentation included tips and advice on compiling their Curriculum Vitaes as well as guidance on using social media, especially LinkedIn, to assist them in the search for graduate employment.

“As a Worcestershire company, we work very closely with the University across lots of different departments,” explains Laura. “I specialise in IT recruitment, so have a particular interest in speaking to students in this field. It’s a great time to be a computing graduate as the jobs market is really buoyant, and we are keen to keep top talented students here in Worcestershire, to help with local business growth. I shared my experiences in recruitment and business to assist their future planning. I also discussed our new IT Graduate Forum group on Linkedin and how to get registered with Hewett Recruitment, so we can help them get straight into work when they finish their University studies.”
