'Building Talent for Growth' seminar at the Chamber Business Expo

Laura Hewett and Ben Mannion from Hewett Recruitment are joined by Su Harding,
Director of Human Resources at Southco in Worcester and will discuss the current
trends and challenges facing businesses as the “war for talent” heats up.
It is no secret that we are currently operating within a skills and candidate short
market and research pieces, such as ‘The Candidate Strikes Back’ by the REC, are
highlighting why it is so very important to pay attention to the experience people have
when they apply for a job.

The problems we are facing in the labour market mean we are all being judged as
employers – candidates have much more choice and are more value driven. To
combat this issue employers need to keep improving and evolving as they are
Building Talent for Growth. This will ensure that the candidate has a positive
experience to tell their online and offline network about us every single time, whether
or not they are offered the job. Key to managing this recruitment process are our Line
Managers. More often than not they are responsible for the first impression the
candidate gets of your company and the important task of selling you as an employer.
If this is handled badly then not only can it put off the candidate from wanting to work
for you, research shows it can even impact upon their decision of whether or not to
purchase your products or services in the future.

Internal Self Assessment and creating an action plan is a crucial aspect of building
pools of talent and succession planning.
